Why we built this
LinkedIn's own data shows profiles with a photo get up to 21× more views and 36× more messages. Yet most people pick a profile picture once, guess at the crop, and never look at it again — even though it's the first thing a recruiter sees, usually as a tiny circle next to a name.
Existing options were either expensive photo shoots, generic "AI rating" apps that upload your face to a server, or vague blog checklists. We wanted something better: an instant, honest score with a real LinkedIn preview — and zero uploads.
How the analysis works
The checker combines on-device face detection (a TensorFlow.js model that runs entirely in your browser) with image-analysis heuristics tuned to what recruiters actually judge in a fraction of a second:
- Crop & framing — whether your face is centered and large enough to survive LinkedIn's circular crop, at full size and at thumbnail size.
- Lighting — exposure balance, blown highlights and crushed shadows.
- Sharpness — whether the image stays crisp when LinkedIn shrinks it.
- Background — how much visual noise competes with your face.
Each dimension is scored 0–100 with a specific, actionable fix — not a vague grade. You can adjust the crop live and export a 400×400 px photo that's ready to upload.
What we're building next
The photo checker and the headline checker are live — two steps toward a free, privacy-first toolkit for your whole LinkedIn profile. Still on the roadmap: a banner maker, 40-point profile checklist, About-section review and an AI-headshot detector. See the toolkit section.
Who built this
LinkedIn Photo Checker is designed, built and maintained by Pagani, an independent developer focused on privacy-first career tools. The scoring heuristics are tuned against real recruiter feedback and LinkedIn's own published data on profile photos, and every feature is built so your data stays on your own device — no accounts, no uploads. Visit counts are measured with aggregate Google Analytics data; your photos and text are never part of it (see the privacy policy).
Independence
LinkedIn Photo Checker is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by LinkedIn Corporation. "LinkedIn" is a trademark of LinkedIn Corporation.
